1️⃣ This blog about the future of work The Job Shaped Reality Distortion Field by Paul Millerd A really beautiful description of the current state of affairs, as he sees it. This articulated a lot of the things I’ve been thinking about when it comes to AI and taking over jobs… I don’t think it’s that simple, since I don’t think our relationship to work is simple. Here’s the part I saved to my Commonplace Book: “Work is far more than a job and sometimes has nothing to do with a job at all. Work is something almost all humans crave, something we must do in some form. Work stays with us. It was here before capitalism and will be here after it. In today’s world, work has a totalizing quality. It is central, and yet somehow we pretend it isn’t. Work is deeply entangled with complex basket of things for most people: identity, stability, self-respect, challenge, an escape, a place to belong to, a place to work out your traumas and dramas, an opportunity for dignity, a chance for glory, and, more simply, a way to smooth out the modern challenge of living.” 2️⃣ This Dialectic Podcast episode with Ian Rogers Spotify Link: https://open.spotify.com/episode/3fy0cKe3W7erXhTwTW0SnT?si=ee4bba653bd14df4 A conversation about how to stay an active participant in life – through culture, technology, and just like everything you do… the title is “Never a Spectator”... and I think that really resonates with the way I’m trying to approach life these days – embeddedness is the goal.. Some parts I added to my Commonplace Book: → At Leger, the rule they’ve established is very simple – yet I think it’s something that needs to be made explicit whenever working with AI: Every single thing an AI agent does at Leger must either be approved by a human or by a human policy. → “If the shits bigger than the cat, get rid of the cat.” There will always be shit… it’s just a matter of how much shit you’re willing to take on. 3️⃣ This super out-there EDM album (Esseks) Esseks is putting out some of the most interesting, unique music I’ve found in electronic music lately: ⚠️ Warning: excessively weird music, not made for all eardrums. ⚠️ 🎵 When You Wake Up By Esseks 🎵
🎵 When You Wake Up By Esseks 🎵 4️⃣ These short-form ecology videos I first found Ross through his Nerdy About Nature podcast. To be honest, a lot of those interviews were a bit too dense for me, as someone who's a bit of a numbskull - especially around science. These short-form videos he’s been putting out on Substack (and Instagram) are the best combination I’ve found of: → EASY TO UNDERSTAND: At least, for an idiot like me. Substack: https://substack.com/@nerdyaboutnature 5️⃣ This video of Goose (the band) telling a cop “one moment please” ☝️ https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https://v.redd.it/5vw0woax6vlh1/HLSPlaylist.m3u8 Rick rules so hard. My favorite comments from Reddit: “That cop was trying to groove in the middle of their love connection” “You can’t just interrupt a man’s jam.” === === === === === === === === === === === === === === === === === === === === === === === === === === === Writing from Blue Mountain Lake, NY – been here 3 weeks now, and that feels like long enough ‘cus we’re in the middle of God damn no where. Don’t get me wrong, it’s gorgeous. But we’re here until the end of the Summer Season – through like October 12th or some shit – working at a beautiful resort right on the lake… we’re so tortured, right? But it’s been the longest we’ve been stationed anywhere in a minute – and it’s a very good little break. I’ve had more time to re-establish routines and just get my business in a better place. I’ve also been thinking more about writing, the website, and other creative pursuits (well… really just those… just wanted to add a third thing for rhythm purposes). REPLY OR DIE, BITCH!If you end up taking any of these reccs – fucking reply and let me know dude. Let’s fucking talk about it. Or just… where’ve ya been lately? what’ve ya been up ta? any good meals or new music lately? |
